Biography

GENEVA- Evelyn E. Zakour, born in Geneva and proudly lived there all of her life, passed away peacefully on Wed. (Dec. 28, 2011), at Geneva General Hospital. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday (Dec. 29), at the Palmisano-Mull Funeral Home, LLC 28 Genesee Street, Geneva. Trisagion prayers will be held at 6:45 p.m. Her funeral will be at 10 a.m. Fri. (Dec. 30), at St. Michael's Orthodox Church 98 Genesee Street, Geneva, with the Rev. Fr. Gregory Murphy officiating. Burial will follow in Glenwood Cemetery, Geneva.

Evelyn was the daughter of the late Salim and Mary (Brown) Essa. She married Michael Zakour and had two children. Her great joys were her family, friends and work. In recent years her two grandsons were a source of daily pride and joy. She worked as the secretary for the Superintendent of Geneva City School District until retirement. Evelyn was a member of the Antiochian Women of St. Michael's Church and NYSCSEA.

She is survived by one daughter; Mary (Steven) Erdman of Lexington, MA and one son; John Michael (Olga) Zakour of Geneva; sisters; Barbara Essa of Geneva and Shirley (Philip) Ganem of Wolfeboro, NH; grandsons John Sebastian Zakour and Harris Michael Erdman; several nieces and nephews.

Evelyn was predeceased by her husband, Michael; sisters; Genevieve Essa and Nancy Pinckney, brothers; Geoge and Mitchell Abraham.
