Louie was born in Geneva, NY on October 22, 1930, the only son in a family of five sisters to the late Joseph and Mary Venuti Saglimbeni. He attended De Sales High School, then entered the United States Marine Corps in 1949. Upon discharge, he returned to his hometown and worked in his father's business, the Geneva Bowling Center, in downtown Geneva. He married Eleanor D'Amico on July 20, 1951 at St. Francis De Sales Church, Geneva. Louie retired from the U.S. Postal Service in 1985 after more than 30 years of service. He owned and operated Saglimbeni's Liquor store with his wife, Eleanor, for 50 years. It is of historical significance being one of the first liquor stores in New York State after prohibition, having originally been opened by his mother, Mary, in December 1933. Louie lived life to the fullest, spending long hours manning the liquor store, always friendly and helpful to his customers. He lived his work ethic. Customers depended on him, and he was there for them. He had an indomitable spirit and was larger than life, rarely missing a day of work, retiring at 85 years of age. His spirit will be missed by countless people in the community as well as his family and friends. Louie was a lifelong resident of Geneva and well known for his active, playful lifestyle. He was a hunter, avid tennis player, skier, and runner, often seen jogging through the streets of Geneva. He was known as "Mr. Lou", a well-liked ski and skilled instructor at Bristol Mountain Ski Resort. He experienced great joy in teaching young children to ski. In his memory, please consider making donations to the Ontario County Humane Society, 2976 County Road 48, Canandaigua NY 14424 to honor his love of man's best friend.
