Bernice Reed Obituary

VICTOR-Bernice "Bernie" M. Reed, age 88, formerly of Geneva, died at F.F. Thompson Hospital on March 7, 2025, following a long period of declining health. A private interment as a military spouse will take place at Sampson Veterans Memorial Cemetery at the family's convenience. There will be no prior calling hours.



In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) or to Catholic Charities of the Finger Lakes.



Born in Plainfield, NJ on March 6, 1937, Bernie was the daughter of the late Otto and Mary (Grogan) Schwarz. A graduate of the Georgetown University School of Nursing, she worked in several hospital and private practice settings. In 1969, she moved to Geneva with her husband William (Bill) Reed, MD, and two children. There, she established a large group of friends and a very successful business raising and handling Irish and English setters, including several national champions. She was well known for her passion for dogs and was a proud member of the Kanadasaga Kennel Club. She also worked at the Geneva Recreation Complex. She enjoyed cooking, reading, spending time with her family, and watching Buffalo Bills games.



She is survived by her children Anne (James) Weed of Shortsville, NY, and Bill Reed of Marietta, GA; beloved grandchildren Kathryn Weed (Eric Eckhart) of Broomfield, CO, Jonathan (Savannah) Weed of Grand Junction, CO, and Thomas Weed (Monique Antunovich), of Westminster, CO, and her sister-in-law Dolores Reed of Lincoln, NH.



She was predeceased by her husband, William A. Reed and her daughter-in-law Shani Reed.
