Obituary of Esther Hall

Esther Louise Howe Hall July 8, 1925 – May 25, 2026 Esther Louise Howe Hall, age 100, passed away peacefully on May 25, 2026. Esther was born on July 8, 1925, in Batavia, New York to Wilhelmina "Minnie" and Ethan Henry Howe. She married Morris "Mort" M. Hall on July 5, 1946. She settled in Reading Center, New York with Mort to raise her family and spent her many years of retirement as a snowbird going to Florida for the sun and warmth. She lived a remarkable life filled with faith, love, service, and creativity. Over the course of a century, she touched countless lives through her kindness, wisdom, and unwavering devotion to her family and her faith in the Lord. Esther was predeceased by her beloved husband of 52 years and her granddaughter, Sandra Hillerman Easley. Together, Mort and Esther built a large and loving family that became the center of her life and her greatest joy. She leaves behind her eight children: Suzanne C. Hillerman (Larry), William H. Hall (Becky), John M. Hall, Peggy J. Davies (Doug), Colleen E. Stayer (Ken), Alan N. Hall (Darlene), Shari L. Davis, and Lorraine B. Fish (Gerry). She enjoyed her nineteen grandchildren, twenty-six great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren, all of whom will continue to cherish her memory and honor the legacy she created. Throughout her life, Esther wore many hats. She began working at age 16 at a soda fountain and pharmacy in Horseheads, New York. During World War II, she worked in a bomb factory in Elmira, New York. Later, she worked as a bus driver and served as a Girl Scout leader. She expressed herself through her love of art and creativity. Esther and Morris loved camping and enjoyed traveling between New York and Florida. Above all, she was a woman of deep faith who loved the Lord and lived her life guided by compassion, grace, and service to others. Esther will be remembered for her warm heart, strong spirit, creativity, and the love she freely gave to everyone around her. Her presence was a blessing to her family and community, and her memory will live on through the generations she inspired. She was deeply loved and will be greatly missed. There will be a brief internment service at Pleasant View Cemetery (Cemetery Road in Reading Center), July 11, 2026 at 2:00pm immediately followed by a Celebration of Life for her 101st birthday at Reading Community Church (2671 Church Road in Reading Center). Her memory will be a blessing to all who knew and loved her.
