Dear Diane,
Today I found out that Sheldon passed. I am so deeply sorry and sadden by the news. Sheldon made a great impact in my life at a personal and professional level. He was my adopted "jewish" father.
I have loved him and respected him very much. His image and memory will always be with me, inspiring me and encouraging me to move ahead in life, no matter what challenges I may face. I wish I could have seen him before his passing to say goodbye to him.
And I hope to see you in the near future to pay my respects to you.
The two of you will be always in my heart.
My deepest condolences

Shelly Berlyn was a very special colleague in the Art Department at the University at Buffalo. A noted abstract expressionist who exhibited widely, he also drew with great sensitivity and aplomb. Shelly encouraged his students to work to their fullest potential and find their own voice. As a new faculty member, I appreciated his support of our new program in Illustration, and fondly remember sharing many lunches and engaging conversations with him. He was open and generous and always had a twinkle in his eye. I was happy when he and his art restorer wife and soulmate, Diane, built their dream house and studio overlooking Keuka Lake after he retired. Jack and I enjoyed visiting them there and I am very sad to have lost a good friend. Our Deepest Sympathy to Diane and Family.

Our sincere condolences. It was our honor to know Sheldon. We will cherish our memory coming over to eat a beautiful lunch with Diane and Sheldon and getting a tour of his absolutely stunning art collection. He inspired us as artists and he was a good man. We recently received a copy from Sheldon of his drawings when he was in the army and it will have a special place in our home. With much Love, Cordell and Rachel Cordaro
