Obituary of Mary A. Caraco

Please share a memory of Mary to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
ROMULUS- Mary A. Caraco, 92, passed away peacefully on Sat. (Jan. 20, 2024) at home, with her loving family by her side. In honoring her wishes, there will be no calling hours or service. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. Mary was born on July 5, 1931 in Flint, MI and was a daughter of the late Erik and Ruth (Linde) Nordin. She graduated from Maine Township High School in Park Ridge, Illinois and attended Gustavus Adolphus College, later transferring to Columbia University where she studied Chemistry. During her time in New York City, she met her future husband Harry on a blind date on his sailboat, starting an adventure that would last over 70 years. Mary and Harry raised their family on Long Island where they continued sailing and taking family summer vacations to the Finger Lakes camping at Robert Treman State Park. They eventually retired to their dream home along Cayuga Lake in the early 1990s, which served as a place for family gatherings and summer visits over the years. Mary loved and supported family above all else and was always quick with a story about the accomplishments of her daughters and grandkids. She valued education, had a progressive outlook, and was an avid reader, unbeatable and ruthless croquet player, wonderful baker of Swedish treats, host of large family gatherings, lover of nature and friend to hummingbirds. She is survived by her devoted husband, Harry D. Caraco of Romulus; children Karen DiMartino of Webster, Nina of Avon NC, Nancy Sonner of Cazenovia, Jean (Pete Harris) Williams of Montauk, Deb (Rob Van Brunt) of Ithaca and Cindy (Tim) Tebo of Apalachin; 12 grandchildren Stephanie Craft, Kim Trueman, Kristina Pschierer, Rob Carman, Deidre Schisler, Jim, Matt and Brian Williams, Desiree and Devin Van Brunt and Aaron and Tyler Tebo; and 10 great grandchildren. Mary was predeceased by her parents, her siblings Gunhild Tomlinson and Harry Erik Nordin and three sons-in-law John DiMartino, Jon Cole and Jim Williams. She will be sorely missed.
