Mamie Hessney GENEVA- Mamie Hessney, 91, passed away peacefully on Thurs. (Oct. 3, 2013), at Geneva General Hospital. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Sun. (Oct. 6), at the Palmisano-Mull Funeral Home LLC 28 Geneva. Trisagion Prayers will be at 7 p.m. in the funeral home. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Mon. (Oct. 7), at St. Michael's Antiochian Orthodox Church in Geneva, with the V. Rev. Fr. Gregory Murphy officiating. Burial will follow in Glenwood Cemetery. Contributions may be directed to St. Michael's Antiochian Orthodox Church 98 Genesee St. Geneva, NY 14456. Mamie was born on Jan. 8, 1922 in Brockport and was a daughter of the late Charles and Mary Hessney. She was a lifelong resident of Geneva. Mamie graduated from Geneva High School, Class of 1939 and the Ontario Business School, later known as the Freeman Business School in 1940. She was a banker for many years in Geneva and was the first woman to serve as vice-president of a savings bank in Geneva. In addition to being vice-president, she also served as treasurer for the Former Geneva Savings Bank, later known as the Savings Bank of the Finger Lakes. Mamie was active in the Zonta Club of Geneva, the Geneva Red Cross, the Democratic Party of Geneva, a volunteer for the center of concern and Geneva General Hospital. She was a devoted communicant of St. Michael's Antiochian Orthodox Church in Geneva, where she was a member of the Order of St. Ignatius and the Antiochian Women's Society. She is survived by her special cousin, Azizeh Baroody; special nephew, Tom Abraham and special niece, Christine Hashim; several other nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, great, great nieces and great, great nephews. Mamie was predeceased by her siblings, Michael (Ethlyn) Hessney, John (Janet) Hessney, Martha (Mitchell) Abraham, Regina Hashim, Louise Hessney and George (Helen) Hessney; nephew, Steven Hessney. The family would like to thank Jody and Tammy for the care they gave Mamie throughout the years.
