GENEVA- Joyce Mills Johnson-Kenney, the daughter of the late Jack and Annie B. Mills was born on April 4, 1942 in St. Petersburg, Florida. She departed this life on April 8, 2024. Friends may call from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Mon. (April 15), at St. Paul's Full Gospel Baptist Church in Geneva. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., in the church. Burial will follow in Oaklawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be directed to St. Paul's Full Gospel Baptist Church, 76 East North St. Geneva, NY 14456, or Quick Silver Theater Company 520 8th Avenue; Suite 352 New York, New York 10018. Joyce moved to Geneva in 1956 at the young age of 17 and married the late Rufus (Ted) Johnson, Sr., and to that union four children were born – Bonnie, Rufus Jr., Doris and Edna. Sister Johnson-Kenney found her Church home with St. Paul Community Baptist Church where she became a faithful and devoted member, serving as Deaconess and director of activities. She found her passion and joy working at the Geneva Head Start Program and later at the Ontario Day Care Center as Head Teacher for many years. She went on to work for Hospice and retired in 2020 from Geneva Lochland School. Joyce was an avid reader, loved to shop and cook. She often volunteered at Geneva Center of Concern, Linden Exchange, Salvation Army and Hospice. Joyce was blessed to find love again and in 2007 and married Charles Kenney, Sr. in 2009. The Johnson/Kenney's celebrated and integrated their families in unification. Joyce leaves to cherish her memory her daughters Bonnie Johnson-Aten of Vermont; Doris (Red) Myers and Edna Johnson of Geneva; son Rufus Johnson, Jr. of Geneva; sister Dolores McClendon of Florida; Stepchildren Marge and Roger Williams, Charlene Young; nine grandchildren- Tyler, Alex, Brittney, Garrett, Wyatt, Jordann, Corey, Jasmin and Jewel; five great grandchildren- Aliyah, Lucas, McKinsley, Malachi and Elena, her sister-in-law Doris Mills; good friends Mary Smith, Lillian Collins, Joanne O'Brian and Shirley Collins and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Joyce was predeceased by death her first husband Rufus (Ted) Johnson, Sr., her second husband Charles Kenney, Sr.; her parents Luther and Annie Mills, her brothers Albert Mills, Sr. and Carl Mills; sisters Eleanor Bostick, Harriett Keese; grandparents Arthur Mills, Sr. and Mamie Mills and Doug and Mary King.
