GENEVA-Margaret E."Midge" Griffiths, 72, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday June 13, 2024 at Geneva General Hospital. Services will begin with visitation from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Tues. (June 18, 2024), at the Palmisano-Mull Funeral Home, 28 Genesee Street, Geneva. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. at St. Stephen's Church, in Geneva. Entombment will follow at St. Mary's Mausoleum.
Midge was born in Geneva, NY and was the daughter of the late Irene (DePew) and Herbert Ellis. Midge was a graduate of The Marion S. Whelan School of Nursing. She was a registered nurse for 38 years, the last 15 being at Fingerlakes Detox. Midge enjoyed playing cards and Scrabble at the summer cottage with family and tending to her garden with her grandsons. She also loved catching up with her closest friends for lunches and dancing to The Echomen. Midge was at her happiest surrounded by her family, especially her two grandsons. She attended Catholic Mass at St. Stephen's/St. Francis Church and looked forward to Midnight Mass each Christmas. Midge will always be remembered for making people laugh and making a difference in people's lives with her kindness. She will be sadly missed.
She is survived by her life partner for 33 years, Shawn McCann; daughters, Katrina Valerio and Sarah (Scot) Marino-Carberry; brothers, Charles (Sharon) Ellis, Randy (Darlene) DePew and Jeff (Karen) Ellis; sisters, Judy Scheel, Penny Morse and Maria (Tony) Gray; beloved grandsons, Zachary Ortiz and Dominic Carberry; her life partners siblings and extended family; several nieces, nephews and dear friends.
Midge was predeceased by her sisters, Bernice Gallagher and Christine Justiniano; brothers-in-law, Russell Scheel and Roger Morse.
