Obituary of Kimberly Yancey
Please share a memory of Kimberly to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
With hearts full of love and gratitude, we celebrate the beautiful life of Kimberly A. Yancey (Kim), who peacefully transitioned into the arms of the Lord on Friday, November 15, 2024, at Geneva General Hospital, following a courageous battle with breast cancer. Kim's unyielding strength, grace, and faith were a beacon of light to everyone who had the privilege of knowing her.
Born on September 27, 1964, in Geneva, NY, to Sydney and Priscilla Yancey, Kim brought a radiant light wherever she went. Her kindness, wit, and unshakable devotion to her family, community, and faith touched countless lives.
A proud graduate of Geneva High School, Class of 1983, Kim pursued her passion for serving others with unwavering determination. She began her career at the Canandaigua VA Medical Center as a Nursing Assistant in 1987. After a workplace injury, Kim turned a challenge into an opportunity, earning an Associate's Degree in Human Services from Finger Lakes Community College, followed by a Bachelor's Degree in Sociology from SUNY Oswego in 2005, and a BA in Social Work from Keuka College.
Kim's professional journey was a testament to her empathetic heart and steadfast dedication. From her impactful work at Kids Peace, later Hillside Children's Center, to her vital role as a Crisis Responder on the Veteran Military Crisis Line, Kim's compassion and gentle spirit were a lifeline to those in need. Her contributions left an indelible mark on the lives of countless individuals.
A lifelong member of Mt. Calvary Church of God in Christ, Kim's faith was the cornerstone of her life. From her childhood salvation under the late Administrative Assistant Rev. Clarence Williams. Kim's commitment to God's work was evident in everything she did. She was a vibrant presence in the Women's Department, Pastor's Aide Committee, and Decoration Committee and an organizer of impactful initiatives like the church's first "Harvest Fest," its Annual Free Thanksgiving Dinner, and the original media and Facebook page for Mt. Calvary.
Beyond her church, Kim's dedication to community was unmatched. As Membership Chair of the Geneva Area NAACP for 25 years, she worked tirelessly to uplift and empower others, organizing the First Annual Stay in School Back-to-School Giveaway and countless other initiatives.
Kim's creative talents reflected her vibrant soul. Whether drawing, designing jewelry, or crafting, her artistic pursuits were an expression of her boundless energy and love for life. Above all, Kim was a loving daughter, sister, aunt, and friend who poured her heart into caring for her family, especially her mother.
She is survived by her parents Sydney and Priscilla Yancey of Geneva; siblings, Benjamin (Rebecca) Yancey of NC, and Tiffany Yancey of Geneva; aunts and uncles, Lucile (Lonnie) Mallard of Geneva, Dorothy (David) Williams of Geneva, Elizabeth Knight of Geneva, Shirley Reid of Geneva, Danny Swinney of NJ, Marjanell Jones of GA, Leon Butler of GA and Roslyn (Christine) Butler of GA; nieces, Tanisha Yancey and Yolanda (Brian) Hoover; Brandie Eaves, nephew, Benjamin Yancey, Jr. Great Nieces Moneia Lyric Reid – Yancey, Gabriella Hoover, Noelle Eaves and Genesis Hoover and Great Nephews Zyair Inez Reid – Yancey, Peyton Hoover and Zaeden DuBoise; Goddaughter Brianna Johnson-Whitfield, and a host of cousins, other relatives loved ones and friends.
