Norman 'Stoney' J. Swartz, Sr. BLOOMFIELD- Norman 'Stoney' J. Swartz, Sr., 87, formerly of Geneva and Virginia Beach, passed away peacefully on Fri. (April 25, 2014), at M.M. Ewing Continuing Care in Canandaigua. Friends may call from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tues. (April 29), at the Palmisano-Mull Funeral Home LLC 28 Genesee St. Geneva. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1 p.m. Wed. (April 30) in St. Stephen's Catholic Church in Geneva. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, with full military honors. Stoney was born on Jan. 21, 1927, in Olean, NY, and was the son of the late James Cleveland and Ila Mae (Smith) Swartz. He served his country and saw combat with the Merchant Marines in WWII, served in the United States Air Force from 1949 to 53 and received the medal of good conduct. Stoney graduated from RIT with an Associate's Degree in business. He worked at Kodak for over 20 years and retired in 1986. Norman was a 60+ year member of the American Legion Post 396 in Geneva and a fourth degree Knight of Columbus. He was very active with his family members and enjoyed woodworking, hunting, and just spending time outside watching the ships at sea and listening to the jets from Oceana fly overhead. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Eva Ann (DeJohn) Swartz of Bloomfield; sons, N. 'Skeeter' James (fiancé Dani Crowell) Swartz, Jr. of Bloomfield and Michael 'Mickey' (wife Julie) Swartz of Madison, Ind.; daughter, Marcia (husband Wayne) Cain of Bremo Bluff, VA; grandchildren, James M. Swartz, M. Duncan Swartz and Samantha Swartz, David (wife Elena) White, Daniel (wife Jennifer) White, Matthew White, Emily White and Eric (fiancé Carmen Maupin) White; great-granddaughter, Isla White and many beloved nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made in Stoney's honor to M.M. Ewing Continuing Care Center, the Alzheimer's Foundation or other charities of choice. The family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to the staff at The Pines in the CCC at Thompson Hospital for their compassionate care.
