John was a friend and mentor as each of us worked at NYSAES. He recognized the strength in colleagues as well as weaknesses - always teaching so that we each developed our potential. It always amazed me how he could listen to the firehouse scanner at the same time he reviewed complicated code or the latest analysis. His skill with statistics put him firmly in the genius realm, his kindness and perseverance in saintly circles. We are blessed for having known him and saddened he is no longer with us. Blessings on his family and all who love this amazing man.

Dear Catherine,
I was so sorry to hear about your John. I lost my John last October to cancer so I know exactly what you're going through. I have such fond memories of you and John from back in the days when I worked at the Smith Opera House and we all put in so much time and effort to save and restore that magnificent building. My sincerest sympathies to you and your entire family.

I spent countless hours with John at North Seneca Ambulance several years back. Being on the same rig, we shared many lunches and dinners together. John loved to talk about his wife and kids, saying how proud he was of each and every one of them. His stories, his laugh, his smile, will always be remembered. John, thanks for all the wonderful memories.

I used to work with John on the night shift at North Seneca Ambulance all the way to the point where he was diagnosed with cancer. He was amazing with his patients, all his patients loved him, he always greeted and treated them with a smile. He went out of his way to help any student that rode with us. I will always remember his humor and smile. He enjoyed his family, I had the chance to meet some of them when they were in town. John you will always be remembered! This morning I had a cup of tea for you kind sir! Till we meet again.

The New York State Agricultural Experiment Station is mourning the loss of John Barnard. John was a valued source of advice on statistics and computing. He went out of his way to help students, staff and faculty and in a wonderfully knowledgeable yet kind manner. His contributions benefited our research and ensured we used the best analytics to test our experiments. He will be missed. Our thoughts are with his family.

When John married my cousin Catherine, I played the organ for the ceremony. I was age 11 and this was one of my greatest achievements. I remember John as a true Gentleman and a Gentle Man.
