Philip Basile GENEVA- Philip Basile, 87, passed away peacefully on Thurs. (Oct. 18, 2012), at the Canandaigua VA. Friends may call from 9 to 10:30 a.m. on Fri. (Oct. 26), at the Palmisano-Mull Funeral Home LLC 28 Genesee St. Geneva. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. in the funeral home. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, with full military honors. Contributions may be directed to the Canandaigua VA Hospital 400 Fort Hill Ave. Canandaigua, NY 14424, or the Alzheimer's Association 435 East Henrietta Rd. Rochester, NY 14620. Philip was born on Sept. 26, 1925 in Rochester, NY, and was the son of the late Philip and Nancy (Prestiani) Basile. He spent his childhood in LA. At the age of 17, he enlisted in the United States Navy, serving proudly and honorably in WWII. While at war, Phil was wounded aboard the battleship, U.S.S New Mexico, on May 12, 1945 and received the Purple Heart award. His story was chronicled in the 1992 History of U.S.S New Mexico "All Queens Men". After the war, he attended Rochester Institute of Technology for a year before moving back to Geneva. Phil also attended the Freeman Business School. He then joined the Capuchin Order of Monks, spending 3 years in religious study before deciding to leave the order. Phil worked a clerical job at Howards Express for 15 years. He was a talented artist, illustrator, an avid bowler and a beloved son, brother, uncle and friend. He is survived by his sister, Rose Ann Ariniello of Geneva; niece, Katrina Browne of Colo.; nephew, Michael Basile of Calif. and several other cousins. Phil was predeceased by his siblings, Diana Basile Ferlisi, Vincent Basile, Sam Basile and Carmella Basile Tandle.
