Abraham George

GENEVA - Abraham George, 83, passed away peacefully Thurs. (Mar 31, 2011) at Geneva General Hospital with his family by his side. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tues. (April 5) at the Palmisano-Mull Funeral Home, LLC, 28 Genesee St. Geneva. Trisagion prayers will be at 8:30 p.m., at the funeral home, with the Rev. Fr. Gregory Murphy officiating. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wed. (April 6) at St. Michael's Orthodox Church, 98 Genesee St. Geneva. Burial will follow with military honors in Glenwood Cemetery.

Abe was born on Nov. 29, 1927, in Geneva, NY, and was a son of the late John George and Jennie Tony. He was an accomplished business and family man. A father of seven children, Abe was known for his innovative abilities at developing real estate property in Geneva, NY and Marco Island, Fl. He was a district manager for Metropolitan Life Insurance for approximately 20 years. Before, during and after this time, Abe was a successful restaurant entrepreneur with businesses around the Finger Lakes region from the early 1950's to the mid 1970's. Abe served as a member of the school board for the Geneva School District. He was a very active member at St. Michael's Orthodox Church, where he served on several committees for the parish. He served his country in the Army during WWII and was member of the Geneva VFW, American Legion, Lion's Club and the New York State Guard. Abe's hobbies included fishing and boating; and he enjoyed extensive travel with his wife, Phyllis, of 62 years, and his family.

He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Phyllis (Parisi) George; children, Mikel (Mary Lou) George of Seneca Castle, David (Margaret) George of Webster, Stephen George of Rochester, Michelle (James) Mason of Geneva, Daniel George of Naples, FL and Matthew (Jennifer) George of Eagan, MN; sister, Ethel (Paul) Peters of Geneva; grandchildren, Leah, Jason, Bryon and Alexander George, Adam Michaels, Marc and Erik Mason and Josephine and Samuel George and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Abe was predeceased by his son, Marc George; brother, Joseph George and sister, Mary Christensen.
