Joseph A. Augustine 'Big Joe' GENEVA - Joseph A. Augustine passed away unexpectedly Sat. (April 23, 2011) at home, with his loving family by his side. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Tues. (April 26) at the Palmisano-Mull Funeral Home, LLC, 28 Genesee St., Geneva. Funeral services will begin with prayers at the funeral home at 11 a.m. Wed. (April 27) followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 a.m. at St. Francis De Sales Roman Catholic Church, 130 Exchange St. Geneva, with the Rev. Paul Tomasso as the Celebrant. Entombment will be in St. Mary's Mausoleum. Contributions in Joe's memory may be made to Our Lady of Peace Parish, 130 Exchange St. Geneva, NY 14456, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105, or the charity of one's choice. Joe was born Oct. 16, 1922, in Geneva, NY, the son of the late Vincent and Josephine (Donato) Augustine. He served in the United States Army and was employed at the Geneva Foundry Corp. for 41 years as Core Room Supervisor. He served the city of Geneva as a 6th Ward Alderman for many years, and subsequently represented Geneva as a Supervisor on the Ontario County Board. Joe also was a member of the original Geneva Housing Authority Board. He was a member of Our Lady of Peace Parish and the sons of Italy. Joe enjoyed gardening and grilling outdoors and was also an avid hunter. He took many hunting trips with his two sons and his hunting buddies. He loved his many hunting dogs over the years including Lady, Benji, Mugsy, and Duster. Big Joe looked forward to each morning and sharing the daily news with his coffee club clan downtown. He delighted in entertaining his grandchildren each day after school and made certain their homework was completed with care. He always made sure Sofia and Luke had their favorite treats waiting when they walked through the door. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Lorenza 'Lorie' (Antinelli) Augustine; children, Joseph A. (Christine) Augustine of New York City, Neil A. (Kimberley) Augustine of Greenwich, CT and Leigh A. (John) Consolie of Geneva; 6 adoring grandchildren, Alexa, Daniel, Sarah and Matthew Augustine and Sofia and Luke Lawson, who will dearly miss their 'Poppa'; sister-in-law, Carolyn Antinelli; brother-in-law, Albert (Eleanor) Antinelli, and many caring and devoted nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers, Jack, Santo, and Phillip Augustine; sisters, Fanny DeMeo, Lena Ficcaglia and Ida DiCostanzo and his son-in-law, Ronald Lawson, Jr.
