He married the love of his life Lois Morten on April 20, 1952. They moved to Geneva, NY in 1952 to raise a loving family of natural born and adopted children. They were married for 28 years before Lois' untimely passing in 1980. Deacon Woody accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior in 1959 at Mount Olive Baptist Church under the late Rev. Elijah Miles. He was subsequently set aside and ordained a Deacon. He faithfully carried out that assignment from the Lord for the duration of his life. In addition to serving in the Deaconate at Mt. Olive; Deacon Woody also served for many years at St. Paul Missionary Baptist under the Pastorship of the late Rev. Willie Brazil and at his passing was serving under the Pastorship of Bishop Harry Gramling of First Love Church of God's Revealed Truth. He was praying man and lived his life in service to the Lord. His greatest labor of love was visiting the sick and shut in at home, in the hospital and nursing homes. When his eyesight prevented him from driving, he would walk, rain or shine, to make his visits until his own health failed. But if you went to Wegmans, you were sure to see him at his favorite hangout greeting folks, talking to old and young about the Lord! 'Dec', as he was affectionately called, worked at Geneva Foundry until it closed and then worked construction with Labor Local 103 until he retired in 1988. He was a well-respected and honored pillar of the community and an active member of many local organizations including COMAC, CUT and NAACP. He leaves behind a multitude of devoted family, extended family and caring friends who love him and will cherish his memory including his son Robert (Bernadette) Woody, Tony (Frances) Irving, Vincent Ray; daughters Mary Ruth Woody, Clara (Sylvester) Redmon, Deborah Woody, Janet Woody, Phyllis (Michael) Jackson and Ramona Isler; grandchildren Justin, Larsz, Ashley, Codeye, Traceye, Kieondr, Sharod Jr, Andrew, Aja, Trentton, Terrell and Vincent Jr,; wife Shirley Collins Woody; brothers Ivory Joe and Roosevelt Bryant; godfamily Annette, Vincent and Val Mallard, Valerie Thomas; and more family, friends, loved ones and admirers than you can count. He was predeceased by his parents Laurie Woody and Rose Hill Bryant, his adoring wife Lois, his sister Beatrice Tynes, his brothers Starling Jr and James, his son Clarence and his grandson J'Lon.
