Robert Joseph Oddi, Sr. Geneva- Robert Joseph Oddi, Sr., 88, passed away peacefully with his family by his side Saturday, June 9, 2012, at Geneva General Hospital. Family and friends may call from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday (June 12), at the Palmisano-Mull Funeral Home LLC, 28 Genesee Street, Geneva, NY. The Sons of Italy will meet at the funeral home at 8 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday (June 13) at St. Francis De Sales Roman Catholic Church, 130 Exchange Street, Geneva. His entombment will follow at St. Mary's Mausoleum, Geneva. Contributions may be made to Our Lady of Peace Parish, 130 Exchange Street, Geneva, NY 14456 in Robert's memory. Robert Sr. was born in Geneva, NY and was the son of the late Alfonso and Almerinda Marchione Oddi. He attended St. Francis School and De Sales High School. Robert graduated from De Sales High School in 1943. After high school he entered the US Marine Corps, serving during WW II. While serving in the Marines in California, he met his wife of 67 years, Joyce Swinderman Oddi. They then returned to his home town in Geneva and started his family and career.Robert retired from the Geneva Police Department after 20+ years. He started as a patrolman, advanced to Sargent, then to a Detective. Many will remember him as the handsome, young motorcycle Policeman cruising Geneva on his patrol (a picture of him is currently hung in the City Hall Building). Robert also served as a local Politian in Geneva. He was elected as the 5th Ward Councilman for 4 consecutive terms, then Councilman at Large for 1 term. He had a vision for Geneva, the City he loved. Robert was instrumental in the City Urban Renewal and Development Projects; most notable was the Recreation Complex, Lake Ontario Front Development and the demolition of the Seneca Hotel into the newly constructed Seneca Apartments. He was an active member of NYS Retired Police Association (PCNY), Marine Corps League, Sons of Italy and the American Legion. Robert was a devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather. He enjoyed spending time with his family and watching their various sport and extracurricular activities. He will be sadly missed by all. Robert is survived by his loving wife, Joyce Oddi of Waterloo; Children, Barbara & Bruce (Dutch) Davie of Romulus, Robert Jr., & Deborah (Elliotto) Oddi of Waterloo, Marien & Michael Canale of Romulus, and Mark & Kelly (Stivers) Oddi of Victor; 10 Grandchildren, Michelle Davie Candidori and Brad Davie, Brian Oddi, Marla, Mia Marisa and Michele Canale, Alison, Carly and Mark Oddi; 5 great grandchildren, Olivia & Sofia Candidori and Mayson Davie, Brian Jr. & Alexandra Oddi; several nieces and nephews. Robert was predeceased by his 6 brothers and 2 sisters.
