Asta Wittekind Farrand GENEVA- Asta Wittekind Farrand, 84, of Geneva, passed away on Fri. (Dec. 11, 2015), at Geneva General Hospital after a prolonged illness. All are welcome to a celebration of Asta's life from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Sat. (Jan. 16, 2016), in the Blackwell Room, Ramada Inn Lakefront, Geneva, N.Y. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her name to the Geneva Public library and the Geneva Historical Society. Asta was born, Aug. 17, 1931 to the late Ella Schmidt and Leonard Wittekind in Jersey City, N.J. Her professional career included employment with Pan American World Airways as a hostess at Idlewild International Airport, Jamaica, N.Y., where she met Roger L. Farrand. They married in 1955 and moved to Geneva in 1958 where they began to raise their family. Asta also worked as an aide at Geneva Head Start (1970-1973) and as alumnae director at William Smith College (1978-1986). Asta graduated cum laude from William Smith College in 1976, with a bachelor's of art degree in education. She was a Phi Beta Kappa member. She was a gardner, bird enthusiast, cook, opera lover, and appreciated many aspects of the natural world, as well as enjoying "Jeopardy!" on television. Asta traveled widely, both personally and professional with notable stays in Mexico, India, France, Germany, Austria, Italy, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Great Britain including the Isle of Wight, England. She will be noted for her keen sense of humor. Survivors include Roger L. Farrand of Geneva, a son, Matthew C. Farrand of Lewisburg, Pa., daughter Johanna L. Farrand (John Talbot) and grandson Paul A. Talbot of Mamaroneck, N.Y. Cousins include Marrianne Brennan (Thomas) of Cottonwood, Ariz., and Lucille Boljen of Ormond Beach., Fla.
