Steele and Hettie Rickard Steele of Phelps. She was married to Ralph E. Dimick of Geneva in November of 1951. She and Ralph traveled extensively and moved several times during their early years of marriage. Hilda loved to tell her family of their travels to Utah's Great Salt Lake, Arizona, California and their journey by freighter ship to American Samoa for a three month stay. She would also recount how they piloted their houseboat through the Erie Canal system and down the Intercostal Waterway to the Daytona Beach Yacht Basin in 1954. They lived in Florida for several years at different intervals and enjoyed shelling in places like Sanibel Island while on family vacations. They also owned and operated Phelps Florist during the early 1960's. After her husband passed away, Hilda had a career as a supervising housekeeper for the State of New York, retiring in 1986. Hilda was a wonderful mom and grandmother who greatly enjoyed spending time with her family. She helped care for her oldest daughter's children, Chris, Steve, Adam and Alyssa and taught the younger ones how to drive, knit, yo-yo, and play games like scrabble and cribbage. Hilda was a voracious reader, completing five books a week at times. She knitted award winning Afghans, was an amateur photographer, collected seashells, enjoyed playing with her cats, observing cloud shapes and patterns, singing and flowers. She was a very strong and courageous woman living independently up until her recent illness. She leaves behind her daughters, Ginger (Art) LaFaro and Deanie (Ray Boisselle) Dimick; her sons, Gene Dimick and Charlie Dimick; step-children, Dawn Dimick and Stuart Dimick; grandchildren, Christopher (Sara) Day, Stephen Day, Adam LaFaro, Alyssa (John Campbell) LaFaro, Charlie and Michael Dimick, Vanessa, Crystal, and Rebecca Massi; several great-grandchildren.
