Please share a memory of Barbara to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Barbara (Barb) Ellen Skinner Murphy Barbara (Barb) Ellen Skinner Murphy, 64, of Pre-Emption Street, Geneva, did it her way and in her own time, passing away peacefully on Monday, January 28, 2013 at home. She lived life fully and courageously despite her cancer diagnosis, refusing to let it slow her down or change her determination and will to live. There will be no prior calling hours per Barb's request. A Celebration of Life is scheduled for Thursday, January 31 at the Fingerlakes Family Moose Lodge, 0453 Waterloo-Geneva Road, Waterloo from 2:00 pm till 9:00 pm. Barb was born May 4, 1948 in Geneva NY, and was the daughter of Robert W. and Clara Mason Skinner. Barb was a lifelong resident of the Geneva area and graduated from Geneva High School in 1966. She was retired from P& C Food Markets where she had been employed for 38 years. Barb was owner and operator of Bad Time Barb's Hideaway from 1983 to 1995. Barb was a beloved 4-H leader for her own children (The Equestrians), and then went on to develop a 4-H club for her grandchildren and their friends (The Stars of Misty Meadows). Barb was an avid horsewoman and animal care provider and protector who loved the companionship of many animals over the years, from the rescued horses at the auctions to the animals dropped off at her house. She loved and cared for everyone and everything unconditionally. Barb enjoyed the company of her great friends, and had a very special place in her heart for her family, especially her beloved grandchildren, of whom she was so proud...Nana would do anything for them! She especially enjoyed cooking for family and friends, even complete meals, from the list-making to the shopping to the preparation to ensuring each person's dish met his or her individual tastes. Barb's seemingly endless personality shone larger than her petite frame. Whether you knew her as Barb, Barnyard Barbie, Bad Time Barb, Mom, or Nana, she made sure everyone was happy. She was known for her quick wit, sense of humor and quips..."that's another reason why I don't have one of those"..."give me a Coor's Lite and another cigarette". She is survived by her daughter, Kimberly (Patrick Maher); Steven (Shauna) Riccione; grandchildren, Jessica Millis (Anthony Madia), Alexandria Maher, Cody Maher, and Nicole Mattoon; favorite brother, William Skinner; twin step-brother and step-sister, Jack and Jan; nieces, nephews, and cousins; special canine companion, Roxy; countless friends, especially the "Tag Team" of Linda and Jan; with appreciation to her special hospice nurse, Patti Jacobs. Barb was predeceased by her loving father and step-mother, Robert and Maude Skinner, mother Clara, and twin brothers, Richard and Robert Skinner. Barb will be missed, remembered, and loved forever! Her legacy of courage, sacrifice, and giving from the depths of one's heart will live on. "Happy Trails, Barb...you deserve it!"
