Rafael Mateo, Sr.
NEWARK- Rafael Mateo, Sr., 69, passed away peacefully on Wed. (Dec. 21, 2016), at Newark-Wayne Hospital. Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Wed. (Dec. 28), at the Palmisano-Mull Funeral Home LLC, 28 Genesee St. Geneva. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. Thurs. (Dec. 29), at St. Francis De Sales Catholic Church in Geneva. Burial will be in Newark Cemetery.
Rafael was born on Dec. 29, 1946, in Puerto Rico and was a son of the late Ignacio and Justina (Rolon) Mateo. He worked for many years as a roller for Toner Paving and R.L. Bates. Rafael enjoyed camping and fishing. Above all, he loved spending time with his family, especially his children and grandchildren.
He is survived by his loving wife, Alice (West) Mateo of Newark; sons, Steven Mateo of Newark, Adrian Mateo of Newark and Rafael Mateo, Jr. of Geneva; daughters, Jessica Bouwens of Newark, Diana Lymarie Mateo of PA, Nancy Mateo of Waterloo and Denise Mateo of PA; brothers, Ignacio Mateo, Jr., Frank (Karen) Mateo and John Mateo, Sr.; sisters, Olga Mateo and Evelyn Munoz; several grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Rafael was predeceased by his brothers, Raymond, Jose, Catalino, Sr. and Thomas Mateo; sisters, Anna Valentine and Carmen Chavez.
