NEWARK- Amalia Baez Ortiz, 94, passed away peacefully on Tues. (Aug. 14), at home. Family and friends may call from 4 to 6 p.m. Thurs. (Aug. 16), at the Palmisano-Mull Funeral Home LLC, 28 Genesee St. Geneva. A funeral will follow at 6 p.m. in the funeral home. Burial will be at the convenience of the family in Sampson Veterans Memorial Cemetery.

 

Amalia was born on June 12, 1924, in Yauco, PR and was a daughter of the late Cruz and Lorenza (Bonilla) Baez. The family moved to Newark, NY in Sept. of 1959. Amalia worked at a number of places in the Newark and Geneva area. She enjoyed Playing Dominoes and giving "chivas" to her opponents. Amalia always felt like she was a veteran because her husband and children all proudly served for their country.

 

She is survived by her sons, Louis (Ute) Ortiz, Nestor (Aida) Ortiz and Alberto (Rosi) Ortiz; grandchildren, Molly, Yvette, Nestor, Jr., Alberto, Jr., Liseida, Leslie and Lucy; great-grandchildren, Marisa, Olivia, Alberto, III., Brian, Kimberly, Jayden and Gricelda; great, great- granddaughter, Lyomaris.

 

Amalia was predeceased by her beloved husband, Antonio Ortiz.
