Obituary of Vito K. Lewis
Please share a memory of Vito to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
GENEVA-Vito K. Lewis, passed away peacefully into the Arms of his Lord and Savior on Tues. (Oct. 30), at Newark-Wayne Community Hospital. Family and friends may call from10 to 11 am Tues. (Nov. 6), at the Mt. Calvary Church of God in Christ, 21 Milton St., Geneva. A funeral service will follow at 11 am in the church. Burial will follow in Glenwood Cemetery.
Vito was a gift from God, born to Dorothy Deberry and Willie Marine in Ocilla, Georgia on May 14,1973. He was raised by the late Earnest D. Lewis and Annie L. Lewis, at the tender age of 1 year old. He was introduced to Christianity and the love, and wonder-working power of Jesus Christ, through his mother Annie Lewis.
Vito attended Geneva City Schools where he graduated from Geneva High School in 1993. Vito was a diligently faithful member of Mt. Calvary Church of God in Christ, under the leadership of the late Administrative Assistant Emeritus, Supt. Clarence Williams, who was also his Godfather, Pastor Jonathan Perkins, and presently, Pastor Terrance Simmons.
Vito loved his church so much that he could be found setting up and breaking down the dining hall after meals, assisting the Men's Department in selling barbeque tickets, or attending to the needs of anyone who asked. Selfless; a word aptly applied to Vito. As the years went on, he became affectionately known as "church security"; he truly embodied and cherished his role and title. He also was a member of the Sunshine Band, Intermediate Choir, Youth Department, and Music Department where he could be found carrying his drum bag and sticks to play drums, and when not physically playing the drums, he could be found backing the musicians up on "air guitar" from behind.
His affection for his family was boundless. Ever loyal, he was a tremendous help to his family members. Vito had a knack for remembering everyone's birthday. He didn't ask for much, but appreciated being loved and showing love. He enjoyed being surrounded by his friends and family, finding every opportunity to laugh and have fun.
Vito was an avid sports fan. He exalted his beloved Chicago Bulls, Chicago White Sox, Miami Hurricanes, North Carolina Tarheels, and his intrepid New York Giants. He was a great supporter of Geneva sports, seen frequently donning his red, black, and white. A Geneva Panther, through and through.
Vito was predeceased by his father Willie Marine, maternal grandmother Kate Tucker, his father Earnest D. Lewis, and brother Robert Huffton, Jr.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his mother, Dorothy Deberry of Ocilla, GA. Mother, Annie Lewis of Geneva, NY; his sister, Brenda Bryant (Julius) of Geneva, NY; two brothers, Cedric Tucker (Lisa) of Valdosta, GA; Terrell Tucker of Alpharetta, GA. Seven nephews, Brandon and Jason Bryant of Canandaigua, NY; Justin Bryant of Geneva, NY; Tyberius and TJ Tucker of Alpharetta, GA; Troy and Charles Tucker of Valdosta, GA. Two nieces, Tiffany Tucker of Valdosta, GA; Mercedes Tucker of Alpharetta, GA. Three great-nephews, one great-niece, a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. Also, his Godmother, District Missionary Dorothy Williams of Geneva, NY, close friend Donna Laird of Waterloo, NY, adopted family member Reggie Coleman of Geneva, NY, and his Mt. Calvary church family.
