Obituary of Matthew S. Prater

BROCKPORT- Matthew S. Prater, 56, passed away on Sun. (Nov. 4, 2018). Family and friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Tues. (Nov. 13), at the Palmisano-Mull Funeral Home LLC, 28 Genesee St. Geneva. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Wed. (Nov. 14), at the funeral home. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. Contributions may be directed to the Geneva Volunteer Fire Dept. Nester Hose Co. 207 Genesee St. Geneva, NY 14456. Matthew was born on March 7, 1962 in Geneva and was a son of the late Cecil, Jr. and Josephine "Josie" (Marino) Prater. He was a member of the Geneva High School class of 1980. Matthew worked as a construction superintendent for Crane-Hogan Structural Systems and was a member of the Operating Engineers IUOE 158 Local 832 of Rochester and the Laborers Union Local 435 of Rochester. He was an avid hunter and outdoorsman who enjoyed golfing, training his dogs for field trial competitions and breeding labs. Matthew made sure that family was first and was always there during time of need. He was a lifetime member of the Nester Hose Company and a member of St. Francis De Sales Catholic Church. He is survived by his daughters, Sarah Clark of Canandaigua and Elizabeth Prater of Spring Hill, TN; loving companion, Susan Casper of Brockport; siblings, Monjha Prater of Farmington, Jonathan (Mary) Prater of Farmington, David (Linda) Prater of Geneva, Christopher (Amy) Prater of Williamson and Brian (Sheryl Mott) Prater of Geneva; grandchildren, Alexis and Jack Clark; several nieces, nephews, extended family and dear friends.
