GENEVA- Anthony "Val" J. Valentino, Jr., 87, passed away peacefully on Wed. (Sept. 15, 2021), at home, surrounded by his loving wife and family. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Mon. (Sept. 20), at St. Stephen's Catholic Church in Geneva. Entombment will follow in St. Mary's Mausoleum, with full military honors. Contributions may be directed to Our Lady of Peace Parish, 130 Exchange St. Geneva, NY 14456. Val was born on Oct. 14, 1933, in Geneva and was the son of the late Anthony J. and Ida (DiGiacomo) Valentino, Sr. He was a graduate of Geneva High School. Val served his country proudly in the United States Army. He worked for 24yrs at the A&P in Geneva and remained in the grocery business for another 34yrs becoming a district supervisor for P&C until his retirement. Val was a lifetime member of the American Legion Post 396, where he served as Post Commander and on the Board of Directors. He was a board member of the Finger Lakes Credit Union, the Geneva Housing Authority serving as Vice Chairman. Val was involved extensively in the community including serving as a City Councilor of the 3rd Ward. He was a dedicated member of Our Lady of Peace Parish, where he served on the Parish Council and was a Eucharistic Minister. His passion was his yard work and gardening. He enjoyed traveling with his wife Mary Jane and playing golf. Above all, he loved spending time with his family. He is survived by his wife, Mary Jane (Marro) Valentino of Geneva; children, Valerie Oyer of Virginia Beach, Steve (Christine Zugec) Valentino of Geneva and Michelle (Eric) Hemmings of Virginia Beach; sister, Mary Ann (Richard) Hubschman of Englewood Cliffs, NJ; grandchildren, Michael (Kayla) Valentino, Stephen Valentino Jr., Joshua Oyer, Zachary Oyer and Emily Oyer, Hannah Hemmings and Hayley Hemmings; great-grandchildren, Autumn and Anthony Valentino, Asher and Landon Oyer; several nieces and nephews. Val was predeceased by his brother, Maurice Valentino, son-in-law, Michael Oyer and daughter-in-law Kelly (Smith) Valentino.
