ELLEN PORTER graced this earth on December 31ST 1938. She was the daughter born to Bessie Tiff Hughes and McKinley Hughes Sr. of Irvington, Ga. Before sunset, on Friday September 17,2021 ELLEN PORTER relinquished her earthly garment for a heavenly robe in glory and peacefully transitioned to eternal rest SURROUNDED BY HER LOVING FAMILY As a young child ELLEN'S parents along with her siblings relocated to Jacksonville, Florida and soon after they then relocated to Immokalee, Florida. She was educated in the Immokalee school system. In 1965 Ellen married the late Eddie Lee Porter Sr. Ellen was the proud MOTHER of six children, Gail, Eddie Jr., Deborah, Veronica, Gregory, and Leola. Ellen, more affectionately known as "Ms. Ellie" and Mother Porter by all. Ellen was introduced to the church at an early age and attended Allen's Chapel AME Church in Immokalee Fla. along with family. After relocating to Geneva N.Y. in 1966, Ms. Ellie became a Member of the Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church where she became a member of the Adult Choir before serving as a Deaconess, and on the Mother Board. Mother Porter was regularly active in Sunday School as well as Bible Study. Ms. Ellie loved talking…. with family and friends. She enjoyed cooking, shopping, and telling jokes and laughing at her own jokes. Ms. Ellie had many friends and associates. She was a member of the Eastern Stars and the Soul Sisters plus one Brother Social Club. ELLEN was a hard worker and held employment at the; Sixth L. Packing House, Seneca Foods, Finger Lakes Racetrack And worked in the Food Service Department at the V.A. Hospital in Canandaigua NY where she retired after thirty years of Service. Even after retirement Ellen worked as a volunteer at A.R.C. working with disabled individuals Ellen leaves to cherish fond memories, one sibling Mary Hughes Immokalee Fla. Her children; Gail Fuller (Victor) Naples Fla., Eddie L. Porter Jr. (Tara) Immokalee Fla., Deborah Ann Porter-Merritt (Leonard), Rochester NY, Veronica S. Porter (Joseph) Geneva NY, Gregory T. Jackson (Theresa) Geneva NY, Leola Jackson, Rochester NY and Reginald Coleman (Dawn) Geneva N.Y. Ellen also leaves to cherish fond memories; 19 Grandchildren, 19 Great Grandchildren and 2 Great Great Grandchildren, one Special Aunt Bernice Newton and a host other relatives. Ellen often referred to having a host of adopted Children…… Gary Porter, Tosha White Spann (Godchild), Wonda Beaver, Dolores Nelson, Thomas Coleman, and Ron Earl Johnson just to name a few. She also often spoken of her long time special friends: Roy Jones, Pastor Ester Daniels, Mary Louise Blue,Kate Milton and the late Mary Nell Robinson. She was preceded in death by her mother and Father, her siblings, Mattie Hollingsworth, Lois Hollingsworth, Agnes Hughes, McKinley Hughes, Jr., Robert Lee Hughes. and Georgia Bell Allen.
