AIKEN,SC- Nelson Mateo, 54, passed away on Sat. (Oct. 23, 2021), at the Aiken Regional Hospital. Friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. Fri. (Oct. 29), at Mt. Calvary Church, 21 Milton St. Geneva. A funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. in the church. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
Nelson was born on Jan. 20, 1967, in Reading, PA and was a son of Eneida Gonzalez and the late Sam Mateo.
He is survived by his children, Alexis Johnson, Carrington Johnson, Briana (Ahmad) Johnson-Whitfield, Dominic Johnson and Nelson F. Mateo, Jr.; sisters, Anamaria Mateo, Cindy (Matt) Owens and Fela (David) Lopez; brother, Miguel Mateo; nieces and nephews, Xavier Mendez, Ashley McCrary, Zachary Ljungquist, Gregory Payton, Jose Schuler, Kiyana Lopez, David Lopez, Jr., Siannalie Mateo, Shailyn Scufront, Stephanie, Jennifer, Elicia and Elishiya Gibson; 12 grandchildren and several cousins.
In addition to his father, Nelson was predeceased by his sister, Elizabeth Mateo.
