James Overstreet, 87, passed peacefully in the arms of his lord and Savior Friday, June 24th 2022, at Pathway Home of the Finger Lakes. James was born on June 30, 1934 in Oakville, Georgia to Leila Mae Overstreet-Banks. Cared for by Farmer Gervin (step-father) in his teenage years, with no formal education but much knowledge, James moved to Sanford, Florida. There, he lived with his grandmother and worked at local farms for little pay. Having been the knowledgeable and hardworking man that he was, James made his way upstate, and by the age of 21 James made roughly $25 a night. He is most known today for working construction for many local contractors in Geneva NY. In his free time, James was a member of Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church and enjoyed singing Gospel music. Over the years, James became a father/grandfather figure to many in the local community. Fathering 4 children of his own (James Overstreet Jr., Anita Overstreet, Edwin Quinn Strongs, and Alice Overstreet) and grandfathering 6 (James Overstreet III, Dajuawna Strongs, Allauna Overstreet-Gibson, Jayden, Jocelyn, and Jada Strongs) James was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. And above all, he loved his devoted wife of 65 years, Seppie "Tiny" Overstreet. He is survived by his loving wife, Seppie Overstreet of Geneva; children, Edward Quinn (Mackenzie) Strongs and Alice Overstreet, grandchildren, and loved ones; Dinorah Sanchez,Yessenia Pesante, Mary Louise Stevens, Frances Strongs, Michael (Brenda) Strongs, Mr. & Mrs. Bobby Gervin of Atlanta, Mr. & Mrs. John Smith, as well as a host of friends. James was predeceased by his son, James Overstreet, Jr.; daughter, Anita Overstreet. Friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. Fri. (July 1), at Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church, 70 Clark St. Geneva. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. in the church. Burial will follow in Glenwood Cemetery. Repass will take place 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Knights of Columbus, 39 Milton St, Geneva, NY 14456.
