I just got the word today that you are gone.
Memories, I have so many I could probably write a book just of those. But what has always stuck with me is that in the end I am who I am largely because of Jon. He took an angry young woman, handed her a wrench and taught her to drive a race jeep. A much better way to channel feelings. Skills I used all my life. The world was a better place with him in it and my heart goes out to all his family and friends.

I was able to spend sometime with Uncle Jon in the summer of 1986 . If you know Jon he loves his CJ jeeps and we headed out on a 4x4 Jeep event for a weekend. It was a blast and I remember how much he loved driving the CJ with a smile ear to ear on his face.
Jon made a few trips out to California over the last 10 years and swung out to visit the ranch and catch up on old times. He was big into Geo caching and I remember getting out my old mountain bike so he could take the biking path along the lower American river to get in more Geo caching and maybe a few mountain dews along the way.
You will be missed by many!!

I met Jon when I Was a kid fifty years ago when I was in 4H with Tibby. Didn’t spend a lot of time around him but when I got a little older I remember the car he had which I thought was a GTO and that we gave Captain Morgan a ride home one night. He mentioned that summing up his life contained in a few paragraphs was surreal, I thought it was the most genuine testament of how one’s life should be. May God bless you and your family.

Uncle Jon know that you are loved by so many. You inspire us by your strength and courage. Chili got to meet and know her Bestafar's "baby brother!" She got a kick out of it. You shared your passion of Geo-cashing adventures traveling with Liz. Very few people ever find their passion to experience joy.... you have. You traveled to Florida for your friend who needed you. You showed up for him & his family. Everyone who has had the honor to meet you LOVED YOU. What a blessing it is to have you in our lives. You are Richie's FAVORITE UNCLE remembering driving in your golden eagle jeep driving to Cape Cod and drinking Mt. Dew all the way on those country roads. What a beautiful memory to give. We are all better because of you. Sorry we never made it out to your side of the world in NY to visit you and Liz. But you sure did come our way out West. You took the time to visit us city slickers. Thank you for welcoming me into the family.
You're in our hearts forever. Sending you love, light , BIG BEAR HUGS and blessings. We LOVE YOU UNCLE JON❤️we're better having you in our lives. Love, Richie, Michele and Chili Phaler

For my brother Jon (aka Captain Jon). Here are just a few memories from our fishing excursions together: your huge hen salmon from the Salmon River in Pulaski, trout fishing the Beaverkill River in Roscoe, your wild and toothy bluefish in Cape Cod, and all those boating trips in the "Tide 'n Knots" as your 1st mate!
Everyone, including those in California, who had the pleasure of meeting Jon always remarked, without exception, "Jon is such a kind and generous person." Jon, you truly are a Gentlemen's Gentleman!
Jon, I will always remember the good times we had together and will miss you forever. I know Wulfie and Sadie are waiting for you, so give them a hug from me 'till we meet again.
Your Brother,
Brad

Captain Jon showed up at our boat one day, 20 plus years to do a safety inspection on our boat. This was the beginning of a great friendship. We boated, camped, geocached and just hung out and had many laughs and good times. Jon, Sue and I were USCG Captains. We did boat trips together that were always a fantastic time. One with him and his brother Richard (Brad). It was a blast. He always loved Lady Seneca, his jet ski and boat. Dock One!
Jon and Liz have always been there for us no matter what. He was our very dear friend. Our memories with Jon will always be cherished.

This guy! This guy was one of the best! Stopped at our house about 40 years ago to lend a helping hand. From there a great friendship grew. Camping trips, concerts, parties and best of all, just hanging out. I named you Jonny on the spot for good reason. You were always there to help out or check on things for us and our children. Our grandchildren always had so much fun with you probably because you were a big kid yourself at heart. Claire said that you are probably riding Jetskis with her Papa in heaven.
Even our Dogs loved you. You will be greatly missed by the entire Mahoney family.
Thanks for the friendship Jon. You will never be forgotten…

Here’s a photo of our geocaching group on one of our many “Black Friday” caching trips. I always looked forward to these annual trips that Jon would organize. Lots of great memories! RIP Jon. You will be missed by many.

Oh my gosh, so much to share. Jon you were a true friend and the most compassionate neighbor, a loyal friend. You helped those in their time of need, always selflessly and willingly.
Taking trips on our motorcycles, cruising the waters of Seneca Lake and the Erie Canal, blowing snow and shoveling each others driveways, and so much fun talking about people. And sharing that GAWD AWFUL Captain Morgan. (You were the reason I switched to Johnny Walker Blue).
Helping you with your business after I retired was a hoot.
Judy and I were looking forward to another visit with us in Tennessee.
We are heartbroken that you are gone so soon but happy that you are no longer suffering.
Our deepest condolences to Liz and Jon’s family.
