John F. Fabrizio, Sr. GENEVA - John F. Fabrizio, Sr., 78, passed away on Thurs. (July 28, 2011), at Strong Memorial Hospital. Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Mon. (Aug. 1), at the Palmisano-Mull Funeral Home, LLC 28 Genesee St. Geneva. The American Legion Winnek Post 390 will meet at the funeral home at 7 p.m., and the Sons of Italy Lodge 2397 will meet at 7:30 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. Tues. (Aug. 2), at St. Francis De Sales Roman Catholic Church in Geneva. Burial will follow in Glenwood Cemetery with full military honors. In lieu of flowers, a donation to the John F. Fabrizio Memorial Scholarship for Musicians, may be directed to the Geneva District office, 400 W. North St. Geneva, NY 14456. John was born on June 6, 1933, in Geneva, and was a son of the late Patsy J. and Theresa (Caito) Fabrizio. He graduated from Geneva High School in 1951, where he was a member of the Moonlighters musical group and the football team. John attended Potsdam State Teachers College, and graduated with a B.A. and M.S. He was a member of the Delta Kappa fraternity, and participated in Varsity Band and performed at Carnegie Hall. John served his country in the U.S. Navy for two years. As a professional musician, John played with the Mark VI. His first loves were music and football. He was employed by the Geneva City School District for 35 years as a music educator. John conducted concert bands, stage bands, the Geneva High School Marching Band, as well as being the music director for the school's musical. He was head of the music department for many years until he retired in 1992. John directed the choirs at St. Francis De Sales and St. Stephen's Roman Catholic Churches in Geneva. Also, during his years with the Geneva City School District, he coached track and both j.v. and varsity football teams for 18 years. John enjoyed his golf, coffee with the fellas, pinochle at the Legion with the guys; watching his grandsons participate in football, hockey, and lacrosse, and watching his granddaughter participate in cheerleading and dance. Most of all, he loved his family. He was a member of the American Legion Winnek Post 390, Sons of Italy Lodge 2397, Rochester Musicians' Association, Local 66, Big Oak Golf Course and St. Francis De Sales Roman Catholic Church in Geneva. He is survived by his loving wife, Roberta (Solomon) Fabrizio of Geneva; sons, John (Rhonda) Fabrizio, Jr. of Skaneateles, Patrick Fabrizio of Boston, Mass., and Robert (Mary) Fabrizio of Geneva; brother, Francis (Beverly) Fabrizio; three grandchildren, John Fabrizio III, Christine Fabrizio, Steven Fabrizio and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
