SENECA FALLS –James E. Legott Jr, 73, died on February 21, 2021 in Geneva, after a battle with bladder cancer. Friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday (February 27), at the Palmisano-Mull Funeral Home LLC, 28 Genesee St. Geneva. Following calling hours, a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. at St. Stephen's Church. Burial will follow in Glenwood Cemetery. Jimmy was born on August 2, 1947in Geneva and was the son of the late James and Eileen (McGarry) Legott. He graduated from DeSales High School in 1965 and Fordham University in 1969. Jimmy worked all his life as a cook/chef in restaurants in New York City, San Francisco and Ithaca, where he was a founding member of the Moosewood Cooperative, which owns and operates the world renowned vegetarian restaurant, Moosewood. He returned to the Geneva area to work in the family restaurant business, which he did until his illness stopped him. Besides working, Jimmy enjoyed walking and working out with his friends at Maximum Fitness in Seneca Falls. He was an avid traveler, having visited many different countries especially in Asia where he traveled with his friend Ken from California. He loved all things Asian, especially the food. He is survived by his sisters Patricia Knifley of Geneva and Barbara (Jack) Shaughnessy of Florida; sister-in-law Lori Legott of Geneva; Aunt Virginia McGarry of Schenectady; Uncle Pete Muller of Florida and many dear nieces, nephews and friends. Jimmy was predeceased by his parents; sisters, Kathleen and Jeanne (his twin) Legott and brother, William Legott.
